Here is specific language to use when you create a gift in your will (a bequest) that will provide Christ’s teachings for future generations. There is no minimum amount for giving a bequest—all gifts are welcomed and appreciated. Please let us know when you name the North River Church of Christ in your will so that we can respect your wishes.
“I irrevocably give, devise, and bequeath to the North River Church of Christ, Tax ID #XX-XXXXXXX, 320 Austin Avenue NE Marietta, GA 30060, the sum of $__________ [or a description of a specific asset], for the benefit of the North River Church of Christ to be used for the following purpose: [state the purpose—e.g., benevolence fund, unrestricted, missions]. If at any time in the judgment of the trustees of the North River Church of Christ it is impossible or impracticable to carry out exactly the designated purpose, they shall determine an alternative purpose closest to the designated purpose.”
Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied. For example:
“All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I irrevocably give to the North River Church of Christ, Tax ID #XX-XXXXXXX, 320 Austin Avenue NE Marietta, GA 30060, for its general purpose.”
Contingency bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you. Here is an example:
“I devise and bequeath the residue of the property, real and personal and wherever situated, owned by me at my death, to (name of beneficiary), if (she/he) survives me. If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, I irrevocably devise and bequeath my residuary estate to the North River Church of Christ, Tax ID #XX-XXXXXXX, 320 Austin Avenue NE Marietta, GA 30060 for its [general purposes or a specific purpose you request].”
You can leave a legacy for the North River Church of Christ the “beneficiary” of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA or 401[K]) or your Life Insurance Policy. The “beneficiary” should be noted as in the “beneficiary” designation in your policy. Please let us know when you have done this so that we may acknowledge your generosity.
