What We Believe
Rooted in Scripture. Centered on Jesus.

At North River, our faith begins with Jesus. We believe the Bible reveals who God is, the incredible love He has for us, and the life He invites us to experience through Christ.

Following Jesus is more than agreeing with a set of beliefs. It's a lifelong journey of learning His ways, becoming more like Him, and living together as His spiritual family.

The beliefs below reflect our understanding of Scripture and provide the foundation for our life together as a church.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the foundation for what we believe and how we live. Through Scripture, God reveals His character, His love for humanity, and His plan to restore our relationship with Him through Jesus.

We believe Scripture is authoritative for our faith and lives. As followers of Jesus, we seek not only to understand God's Word but to put it into practice, allowing it to shape our hearts, relationships, and decisions.

We believe all Scripture should be looked at through the lens of Jesus.

Key Scriptures: 2 Timothy 3:16–17; Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 7:24–27

We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things, holy and loving, full of grace, mercy, and truth.

God created us to know Him and live in relationship with Him. Throughout Scripture, we see His faithfulness and His desire to draw people into a restored relationship with Himself.

Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John 4:8–10

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully human. He is the promised Messiah, the true King, and the clearest revelation of who God is.

Through His life and teachings, Jesus announced and demonstrated the arrival of God's kingdom—a new way of life shaped by love, justice, mercy, and truth. He lived without sin, gave His life on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead, defeating sin and death and beginning God's new creation.

Jesus is our Savior and Lord. He invites us to trust Him, follow Him, and learn to live under His loving leadership as we become more like Him.

Key Scriptures: John 1:1–18; Mark 1:14–15; Colossians 1:15–20; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

We believe every person is created in the image of God, with inherent dignity, worth, and purpose. God created humanity to live in loving relationship with Him, with one another, and with His creation, reflecting His character and representing His wise and loving rule in the world.

Yet humanity has turned away from God's wisdom and chosen our own ways. The Bible calls this sin. Sin is more than individual wrongdoing; it corrupts our hearts, damages relationships, and distorts the good world God created. All of us have sinned and need God's grace.

Through Jesus, God offers forgiveness and restoration, inviting us to turn away from sin and rediscover what it means to be truly human.

Key Scriptures: Genesis 1:26–28; Genesis 3; Romans 3:23; Colossians 3:9–10

We believe salvation is a gift of God's grace, made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We cannot earn salvation through good works; we receive God's grace through faith in Jesus.

In response to the gospel, God calls us to believe in Jesus, repent of our sins, and be baptized into Christ. In baptism, we participate in Jesus' death and resurrection, receive forgiveness of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is not something we do to earn God's love. It is a response of faith and surrender to Jesus, marking the beginning of a new life as His disciple.

Salvation is not something we only receive when we die but are actively receiving it now as we trust in Jesus.

Key Scriptures: Ephesians 2:8–10; Acts 2:36–39; Romans 6:3–4; Galatians 3:26–27

We believe the Holy Spirit is God, present and active in the world and in the lives of those who follow Jesus.

God gives His Spirit to those who become disciples of Jesus. The Holy Spirit dwells within believers, helping us understand God's truth, empowering us to resist sin, and transforming us to become more like Christ.

We believe spiritual growth is not something we accomplish through willpower alone. We depend on the Holy Spirit to produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our lives.

Key Scriptures: Acts 2:38; John 14:16–17, 26; Romans 8:9–14; Galatians 5:22–25

We believe the church is the body of Christ, made up of people who belong to Jesus and are united by His Spirit. The church is more than a building or a Sunday gathering—it is God's spiritual family.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to worship together, learn from Scripture, share communion, pray, serve one another, and help others become disciples of Christ.

We believe every member of the church has a meaningful part to play. Through genuine relationships, mutual encouragement, and shared mission, we grow together into the likeness of Jesus.

Key Scriptures: Ephesians 4:4–6, 11–16; Acts 2:42–47; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Hebrews 10:24–25

We believe that through the resurrection of Jesus, God has begun His work of making all things new. Jesus' victory over sin and death gives us the hope that death will not have the final word.

We believe Jesus will return, God will judge the world with righteousness, the dead will be raised, and God will renew heaven and earth. His ultimate purpose is not to abandon His creation but to restore it, dwelling with His people in a world where suffering, injustice, and death are no more.

This future hope transforms how we live today. As followers of Jesus, we seek to embody the love, justice, peace, and goodness of God's coming kingdom in the world around us.

Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:20–28, 42–58; Romans 8:18–25; Revelation 21:1–5; Revelation 22:1–5
