  • How did this past week’s practice of “Lectio Divina” go? What did it produce in you?

How do we immerse ourselves in the Kingdom of God while we still live in this dark world? From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry when He calls the 12 to “be with Him” (Mark 3:14), to the end of His ministry when Jesus prays for His disciples to be united (John 17:20-23), Jesus sets the precedence for community. This discipline of engagement is so much deeper than the social media friendships and work acquaintances that are the norm for relationships in today’s society. The community of Christ is where we can find love, joy, and peace as we fight to truly be known by one another and to live out our time on earth being “brought to complete unity”.

Acts 4:32-35

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need

  1. Share one of your favorite memories of being part of the community of Christ. 
  2. When is it hardest for you personally to live life in community and to be united one in heart and mind with the believers? Share the last time you were in that headspace
  3. In those moments of apathy, distrust, bitterness, or over business - what is one thing you wish you remembered in order to not pull back from the community of Christ?

Colossians 3:11-15

Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

  1. When you think about your brothers and sisters that are different than you, what is one area you could initiate and fight to understand more about them in order to be united?

  1. Have a honest conversation with someone that looks different than you about the recent tragedies in our nation.
  2. Ask how they are feeling about it and why.
  3. Fight to understand before being understood.
  4. Pray for one another and our nation.
